_______________
this is one of the amazing race season 5
amazing race visits Philippines
After 72,000 miles around the globe, married parents Chip & Kim landed in Dallas, Texas to win THE AMAZING RACE. Starting in the Philippines, Teams struggled in a grueling climb up a sheer limestone cliff that resulted in the elimination of intrepid bowling moms Linda & Karen. The final three Teams, led by dating couple Colin & Christie, made their way to frigid Canada, where they took a thrilling luge ride before heading to Dallas. A fog bank brought good fortune for Chip & Kim, who snagged the earliest flight to Texas by themselves and went on to win THE AMAZING RACE.
RACE TO EL NIDO
Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 3:46 am, Chip & Kim opened their clue instructing them to make their way to Luneta Park and find the next Route Marker at the statue of Philippine hero and philosopher Jose Rizal. Leaving the Coconut Palace ten minutes later, Linda & Karen had difficulty finding a taxi and surrendered their second-place standing to dating Christians Brandon & Nicole, who found one easily when they departed the Pit Stop one minute later. Only five minutes behind, last-place Colin & Christie, with revenge on their mind, left the Coconut Palace carrying plenty of cash, having acquired it from the kindness of strangers during the Pit Stop.
Arriving at the statue of Jose Rizal in first place, Chip & Kim opened their next clue, discovering they needed to take one of two charter flights to the island village of El Nido. The first charter flight with room for two Teams was scheduled to leave at 10:45 am, while the second charter with the remaining two Teams would depart 45 minutes later. Once in El Nido, Teams had to travel to the boat dock and choose a marked boat to take them to a buoy where their next clue waited.
With the other Teams arriving at the statue in close succession, the race for the airport became critical as everyone vied for a spot on the first charter. Signing up first, Chip & Kim celebrated their lead and Brandon & Nicole soon joined the festivities by taking the other spot on the first charter. Disappointed bowling moms Linda & Karen were relegated to the second charter along with Colin & Christie, who arrived last at the airport.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
Landing in the lush island village of El Nido, Chip & Kim and Brandon & Nicole hired a jeepney to take them to the harbor. Marveling at the beautiful mountains surrounded by crystal blue water, the two Teams arrived at the harbor and boarded separate boats to take them to the buoy. Reaching it first, Brandon & Nicole opened their clue and learned that they were to use binoculars provided in their boats to search the shore of three islands for three separate flags. The cluebox on the island next to the Philippine national flag contained their next clue, while the clues on the other two islands told them to try again. Choosing the correct island was important, as the distance by boat between each island is 20 minutes.
Instead of making a choice of their own, Brandon & Nicole followed Chip & Kim to the first island, when the married parents decided which flag represented the Philippines. After discovering they had chosen incorrectly, Chip & Kim didn't enjoy the tagalong Christians as both Teams headed to a second island. Landing on the shore, Chip opened the envelope to find the next clue instructing them to find a flag along the shoreline of the island. Once there, they needed to put on snorkel gear to search the South China Sea for one of four giant clams containing their next clue. Instead of telling the dating Christians that this was the correct island, Chip lied, but Brandon & Nicole, appalled at Chip's behavior, soon realized this when the married parents took off searching the shoreline.
While Colin & Christie and Linda & Karen landed in El Nido and raced neck and neck to the buoy, Chip & Kim and Brandon & Nicole donned their snorkel gear and began to scour the ocean floor. When Nicole found a giant clam, she struggled to tread water, prompting Chip to swim to her for help. After Chip's earlier subterfuge, Brandon & Nicole both thought he was trying to steal their clue and told him to back off. Swimming ashore, the dating Christians opened their clue to find a Roadblock. In this Roadblock, one Team member had to use a device called an ascender to pull themselves 150 feet up the side of a limestone cliff, Lagen Wall. Upon completing the ascent, they would receive their next clue and rappel 150 feet back down to their partner. With Brandon and Chip opting to perform the Roadblock, both Teams headed in their boats to Lagen Wall.
In a battle against elimination, Linda & Karen, having followed Colin & Christie to one of the wrong islands, made a bold move and broke away from the dating couple as both Teams went to opposite islands for their next choice. Playing the odds, Linda said, "What the hell. We'll either lose or we'll win." The gamble paid off as the bowling moms found their clue, putting Colin & Christie squarely in last place. Linda & Karen took advantage of their lead by quickly finding their clue in the giant clam just as Colin & Christie pulled ashore.
HITTING THE WALL
Arriving at Lagen Wall at the same time, Chip and Brandon began the grueling battle to ascend the limestone wall. Brandon's athleticism paid off handsomely as he took a lead over Chip, who struggled to lift his weight up the rope. As Linda & Karen arrived at the Roadblock with a worried Karen set to climb, Brandon reached the top and rappelled back down. Opening their clue, the dating Christians received instructions to take a two-person kayak and paddle themselves to the other side of Lagen Wall to the beach at Lagen Island, the Pit Stop for this leg of the Race.
As Karen struggled and her teammate Linda offered shouts of encouragement, Chip finally reached the top of Lagen Wall. As Chip began his descent, Kim, on the lookout from the beginning, finally saw Colin & Christie's boat on the horizon. As the married parents got into their kayak, Colin & Christie reached Lagen Wall with a strong competitive fire. As Colin put on the protective gear, a tearful Christie gushed, "There's no one else I'd rather be here with right now."
Paddling to the shore of Lagen Beach, Brandon & Nicole stepped onto the mat in first place. Phil informed the dating Christians that, for their efforts, they had won a vacation to the sunny Caribbean, compliments of American Airlines' website, AA.com, along with a chance at one million dollars in the final leg. Ecstatic second-place Chip & Kim joined the dating Christians in the finals.
At Lagen Wall, the fight to avoid elimination reached its peak as Karen desperately fought off fatigue. The more athletic Colin, fueled by his strong competitive fire, methodically climbed the rope, closing the gap between him and Karen. As Colin passed her, Karen put up one last fight to climb higher, but in the end, it wasn't enough. As dating couple Colin & Christie kayaked to a third-place finish, a tearful Karen shouted, "I'm sorry, Linda!" Still encouraging her partner, Linda yelled, "Your kids are going to be so proud of you!"

Re: The Amazing Race
- Spoiler:
- KARMA BITES BEAUTY QUEENS
As Teams traveled to the stunning desert landscape of Ouarzazate, Morocco, single moms Lyn & Karlyn appeared doomed after being yielded by the beauty queens, but a fortuitous car breakdown for Rob & Kimberly and bad navigating by the beauty queens vaulted them into second place, their highest finish yet. Meanwhile, last place Dustin & Kandice received a reprieve, but are now marked for elimination.
THE ROAD TO MOROCCO
Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 7:33am, models Tyler & James opened their clue that instructed them to fly nearly 3000 miles to Ouarzazate, Morocco, an oasis wedged between the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert. Once they landed, they had to drive four miles to the Kasbah district and find a local antique shop known as Antiquities du Sud where they had to choose one of four unique good luck charms, one of which would bring good fortune at the Pit Stop.
Although they left the Pit Stop in first place, the models stumbled in finding the airport allowing their rivals, the beauty queens, to arrive there first. Using a local for information, Dustin & Kandice discovered that the fastest flight to Casablanca, Morocco, a city they needed to connect through, was via Milan, Italy, landing at 3:00pm. However, they also received a warning about the incredibly tight connection for the flight from Milan to Casablanca. To complete the itinerary, they also booked the final leg from Casablanca to Ouarzazate departing at 10:55pm.
Arriving at the airport second, models Tyler & James received the bad news that the Milan flight was sold out. Instead, they met up with dating couple Rob & Kimberly to book an Air France flight through Paris landing in Casablanca at 4:35pm. Like the beauty queens though, the two Teams booked the 10:55pm flight from Casablanca to Ouarzazate.
Last place single moms Lyn & Karlyn arrived last at the airport and booked the same flight from Kiev to Paris as Rob & Kimberly and Tyler & James. However, they had to take a later flight from Paris to Casablanca, landing at 10:00pm, just in time to connect from Casablanca with the other Teams. The single moms, now with no alliance at all, used their time wisely in Paris by buying a map of Ouarzazate and figuring out where they needed to drive when they landed.
SKIN OF THEIR TEETH
Meanwhile, in Milan, potential disaster struck for the beauty queens as they missed their connection from Milan to Casablanca. While the beauty queens frantically searched for another flight that would get them into Casablanca by 10:55pm for the connection to Ouarzazate, Rob & Kimberly and Tyler & James nearly burst with anticipation when they saw no blonde hair in the Casablanca airport. Rob joked, "They seeped something into my blood system." James added, "The blondes man, they have too much power over us."
Landing in Casablanca just in time to make the connection, the beauty queens sat on the plane to Ouarzazate as the other Teams boarded with shocked and disappointed looks. Rob later commented, "I was literally crushed when I saw them. They took an unnecessary risk to gain time to get to an airport where we were all connecting from. I was hoping the way they played the game would be their fatal mistake."
MOMS TAKE CHARGE
Landing in Ouarzazate, beauty queens Dustin & Kandice emerged from the airport in first place, hoping to hire a taxi to take them to the antique shop before the other Teams would spot them. However, just as they exited the airport parking lot, Tyler & James and Rob & Kimberly saw Dustin & Kandice and decided to try and catch up to them. Just as the two Teams caught up to the beauty queens, the taxi they paid for came to a stop as the driver needed to ask for directions.
Meanwhile, having consulted maps during their layover in Paris, single moms Lyn & Karlyn drove directly to the antique shop where they selected a good luck charm and received their next clue. Opening it, they discovered they needed to drive six miles to Atlas Studios, a famous Moroccan backlot used to shoot such epic films as Cleopatra and Gladiator. The moms also learned that a Yield, which Teams can use to stop a Team behind them from racing, would also be waiting there.
As Lyn & Karlyn drove away, they passed the three Teams still on the side of the road where Tyler mistakenly laughed, "They don't know what they're doing." With the Yield on their mind, the single moms had their target in mind: Dustin & Kandice, who fell to last place after enlisting the help of a local boy who led them to the wrong location. Karlyn remarked, "This is gonna be fun. They usually get everywhere before we do." Karlyn's glee was short lived however, because when the single moms pulled up at the closed gated, a sign informed them it wouldn't open until 8:00am. A disappointed Karlyn said, "So frustrating, the one time we get here first." Believing the blondes beat them, Tyler & James and Rob & Kimberly arrived at the studio shocked to see Lyn & Karlyn sleeping in their car. Tyler commented, "That's a curveball." Arriving at the studio in last place, a relived Dustin noted, "We're hoping to wake up tomorrow to no mistakes."
MOMS WAIT IT OUT
The next morning at 8:00am, the studio gates opened as the four Teams sprinted to the Yield mat waiting inside. Tyler & James and Rob & Kimberly arrived on the mat first and second respectively and chose not to exercise their Yield power. The beauty queens arrived in third place and Yielded Lyn & Karlyn, saying, "They're going to hate us, but if we didn't do this right now, we wouldn't be playing our best game." Beginning the long wait for the sandglass to empty, a bitter Karlyn sniped, "I already hated them. They've shown no character at all in this game. That's on them to live with."
The three Teams ahead of the Yielded single moms opened their next clue to find a Roadblock. In this Roadblock, one team member had to join a professional charioteer in a high-speed race around the stadium. During the hair-raising ride, they had to pull down two flags matching the plumes worn by their horse.
As Dustin, Rob, and James all took to the chariots dressed in traditional Roman attire, James quickly fell behind the other Teams when he horses got spooked and ran off of the track. Dustin took an early lead, later commenting, "I felt like a legitimate gladiator. The crowds were screaming and I was victorious in battle." After grabbing her two flags, with Rob close behind, Dustin rode her chariot past Lyn & Karlyn who still waited on the Yield mat. A fuming Karlyn took the opportunity to flip Dustin off before being chastised by her partner for being "ugly."
Opening their clues, Rob & Kimberly and Dustin & Kandice decided to work together to find their next location 22 miles away at the Café La Pirgola in the town of Idelssan. The two Teams had difficulties finding someone to lead them to Idelssan allowing third place Tyler & James to surge ahead with the help of a taxi they enlisted as everyone headed to Idelssan together.
STRANDED AGAIN
On the way to Idelssan, Dustin & Kandice noticed that Rob & Kimberly's tire was flat, but chose not to tell them until a few minutes later as Kandice joked, "We're not evil blondes. We're just competitive blondes." Faced with another car breakdown, the dating couple couldn't find a jack to fix their tire. Meanwhile, having breezed through the Roadblock with nobody else there, Lyn & Karlyn passed by the stranded dating couple as Karlyn quipped, "If you have trouble every time you get in a car, then maybe it's you, not the car."
Arriving at the Café Pirgola, Tyler & James and Dustin & Kandice opened their clue to find a Detour having to choose between Throw It and Grind It. In Throw It, Teams traveled four miles to the town of Guedara and throw two properly made pots on a wheel at a local pottery shop. In Grind It, Teams traveled four miles back towards the town of Ouarzazate to the North Africa Horse and Olive Farm where they had to grind 77 pounds of olives and fill pressing sleeves with the paste. In both Detour options, only three work stations were available, first come first serve.
Initially, Tyler & James opted to throw pots, but changed their mind for the same reason as Dustin & Kandice: traveling back to the familiar city of Ouarzazate. While the beauty queens proceeded to blow past the still stranded Rob & Kimberly and enraging Rob in the process, Tyler & James stopped long enough to tell them where the next clue would be waiting for them. With Lyn & Karlyn passing them also on the way to grind olives, Rob & Kimberly finally got their tire fixed after a local stopped to help them.
REVERSAL OF FORTUNE
With Rob & Kimberly deciding to choose olives as well, the race to the North Africa Horse and Olive Farm became crucial as only three workstations would be available for use. Last place Rob & Kimberly appeared to be the odd Team out until Dustin & Kandice completely missed the sign and drove right past it. After the models and single moms began turning the heavy stone wheel to crush black olives, the dating couple and beauty queens remained on the road to the farm.
The beauty queens didn't appear very concerned while driving, but that changed when they pulled into the parking lot to see all three trucks there. An incredulous Dustin asked, "How did they all get here so fricking fast? We Yielded them and now they're ahead of us." As Dustin & Kandice waited for a workstation to open, Tyler & James battled Lyn & Karlyn for first place. As she scooped olive paste, Karlyn noted, "That's what they get. We really feel vindicated now that the Barbies are here and they have to wait." The models edged out the single moms by moments to complete the task first and rip open their clue instructing them to drive 25 miles on the road to Marrakech to the Pit Stop at a nomadic Berber camp. Right on the models' tail, an ecstatic Lyn & Karlyn drove off, exclaiming, "The Yield must have been good luck for us and it sucks for the Barbies. Karma is a B. Their evilness has finally bitten them back."
ON TOP AGAIN
As Rob & Kimberly completed grinding olives with Dustin & Kandice still behind, Tyler & James pulled into the Berber camp in first place. As they prematurely celebrated another victory during their run to the mat, James realized that they forgot the good luck charm. As the models ran back to the car, Lyn & Karlyn pulled into the camp and a footrace ensued. While the single moms put up a good fight, models Tyler & James sealed another victory and, when their charm matched the charm of the greeter, they received the good news from Phil they both won a Sprint Treo 700P and a year's worth of service.
BLONDE AMBITION
Although the beauty queens had an opportunity to catch up when Rob & Kimberly couldn't find Phil in the barren desert, the dating couple eventually stepped onto the mat in third place. Arriving in last place, the beauty queens made the dreaded run to the mat as Dustin said, "I feel so numb. I don't even feel like crying."
On the mat, Phil informed the relieved and thrilled Dustin & Kandice that this was a non-elimination leg, so, while they were spared, they now faced a thirty-minute penalty on the next leg if they didn't finish first. Kandice remarked, "We're not playing nice Kandice and Dustin. We Yielded someone today. We didn't stop when someone's tire went flat. We're just playing hardcore." Dustin added, "We want to do it better. We want to do it faster and we want to win.
